Stop Signs come in many different sizes. But not every size sign is appropriate for every situation. The Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices, or MUTCD has specific guidelines in place that detail the minimum size sign that should be used in any particular application.
4 different stop sign sizes
18 x 18 inches or less are NOT MUTCD compliant
24 x 24 inch stop signs are the minimum size required by the MUTCD
36 x 36 inch is the minimum size needed for conventional multi-lane roadways and expressways.
