If you take many photos and want to save storage space, using the High Efficiency Pictures option can help reduce the storage required for compatible photos. Samsung Galaxy cameras can offer HEIF, or High Efficiency Image File Format, as an alternative to the more widely compatible JPEG format.
To enable High Efficiency Pictures, open the Camera app and go to Camera Settings. Look for the High efficiency pictures option and turn it on. Then capture a test photo and check the saved file. When supported by the selected camera mode, the image will be saved in HEIF format.
HEIF can provide smaller files than JPEG at comparable image quality, although the actual file size depends on the image content, camera processing, resolution, and other settings. This makes HEIF useful when storage efficiency is more important than maximum compatibility.
Keep in mind that smaller file size does not necessarily mean lower image quality. HEIF is designed to store image information efficiently, but support varies across older computers, applications, websites, and other devices.
