How to Set JPEG Photo Format on Samsung Galaxy S26, S26 Plus and S26 Ultra Camera for Easier Sharing
Learn how to capture photos in JPEG format on the Samsung Galaxy S26, Galaxy S26 Plus, and Galaxy S26 Ultra camera.
JPEG is a widely supported image format that works well with many phones, computers, laptops, websites, social media platforms, messaging applications, and photo-editing software. If you are having compatibility problems when sharing photos, saving images as JPEG can be a useful option.
On the Galaxy S26 series, open the Camera app, tap the Quick controls icon with the four dots, and then tap Settings. Under Photos, open Photo format. Samsung provides a High efficiency pictures option for saving Photo mode images in HEIF, while Pro mode has a separate Pro mode picture format setting.
If your goal is to capture regular Photo mode pictures as JPEG, make sure High efficiency pictures is turned off. Then capture a new test photo and check the file information in Gallery to confirm the saved format.
For Pro mode, the setting is separate. Go to Camera Quick controls Settings Photo format Pro mode picture format and select JPEG. Depending on the available options, you may also be able to choose RAW and JPEG, which saves both a DNG and JPG version of each Pro mode photo.
JPEG is a convenient choice when you need easy sharing and broad compatibility. However, JPEG files use compression, while RAW files preserve unprocessed image data and generally require more storage.
After changing the setting, take a new photo rather than relying on an older image to test the configuration. Existing HEIF or RAW photos are not automatically changed simply by changing the camera's format setting.
The exact menu names or available options can vary depending on the Galaxy S26 series model, software version, camera mode, and region. Samsung confirms that some camera settings may not be available in every shooting mode.
