Rikki Poynter | How to Caption Your YouTube Shorts, Instagram Reels, and TikToks! #2 @rikkipoynter | Uploaded October 2024 | Updated October 2024, 5 hours ago.
The type of font you choose to caption/subtitle your video with is just as important as the colors you choose! A skinny font is difficult to read because it’s so small and thin, and when you add a border onto that, it takes away from the text even more. When choosing your font, consider something with a little more thickness to it.

Hi, here’s another captioning tip for you, especially if you are using short form video like TikTok and Instagram and you have your captions burned into the video. You do not want to have the font that you choose to be very, very skinny. Just like having white on white font is very hard to read cause there’s not enough contrast, there’s just not enough fat in the font to be able to read it when it’s very, very skinny and you have a border on top of it. Or even if you don’t have a border around it, right? So you want to make sure there’s a little bit of fat in it so that people are going to be able to see it very well. I have pretty decent eyesight but I found that even I can’t read skinny fonts very well. So make sure you choose something with a little bit of girth to it. Thank you.
