Show Sugi Ban is the wood finishing technique of charring the surface of wood to make it more resistant to water, insects and UV rays. This technique was developed in Japan centuries ago, but it has recently become quite popular again. This is not a difficult technique to learn and it only requires a few tools, including a propane torch, wire brush, water, and linseed oil.
