With a new baby on the way, and the plan being for two children to share a room, storage can be an issue. When a homeowner reached out to carpenter Nathan Gilbert for this exact issue, he knew what to do. With the help of the homeowner, Nathan builds a custom closet organizer system that provides plenty of storage while also being flexible.
Difficulty: ⅖
Time: A weekend
Cost: Around $300
Where to find it?
Nathan uses some plywood and a shelving kit [homedepot.sjv.io/q46JXO] to customize a nursery closet.
After demoing the old closet, use a level [homedepot.sjv.io/DKdPzG] or yard stick to pencil in the layout lines.
¾” cabinet grade plywood [homedepot.sjv.io/xk6W6O] is used to build panels and shelving. ¾” screen stop [homedepot.sjv.io/q46JvO] is glued [homedepot.sjv.io/KjPqLn] and stapled [homedepot.sjv.io/zNmEkx] to the edge. Hand sand the plywood with 100 grit sandpaper [homedepot.sjv.io/0ZKW5L].
Use a miter saw [homedepot.sjv.io/R5dodR] to cut the closet rods [homedepot.sjv.io/210EqM] to length. Mount closet rods to the pole sockets.
Use trim head screws [homedepot.sjv.io/eKZ9G6] to apply cleats to the wall.
