At the start of 2022 I set a goal to Journal every day. Both for my benefit, and as a way to teach my children the importance of setting (and following through with) goals. Yesterday (on the 8th day of the year) I missed my first day of Journaling. Not because I was being lazy. Because I forgot. Itās not a habit for me yet. But thatās ok, because the next day, I got right back to writing in my journal. It was the first thing I did. I am currently working on building the good habit. And then one day, this good habit will build me.
Most people will fail at some point when they try to build a new habit. Unfortunately, most people see that first failure and āAdmit Defeat.ā Think about dieting for example. One slip up and ITāS OVER! And once we hit this point, we use that single slip up as an excuse to go āoff the railsā because, going āoff the railsā is a whole lot easier than than building the good habit. Maybe thatās the reason we self sabotage. Because secretly, we want an excuse to do whatās easier.
Anybody can do something for a few days. Or even a week. Thatās why we love 5 day challenges. Because they are easy and they make us feel like we accomplished something. Yet we all knowā¦habits are not formed that quickly. Businesses are not built in a week. Real muscles are flexed when we miss a day. And then make the decision the following day to resist the allure of going off the rails. And get right back to doing the āhard thingā that is going to become a good habit, that will someday build our amazing life.
