Battery-powered pruner (e.g. STIHL GTA 26)
Multi-sander with 150-grit sandpaper

2 planed wooden boards (18 x 2100 mm), cut to 70 cm
1 round wood stick, Ø 50 mm, 40 cm
2 round wood sticks, Ø 30 mm, 40 cm
2 wood screws 4.5 x 70 mm
4 wood screws 3.5 x 70 mm
1 wood screw 4 x 30 mm
1 straight branch, approx. 1 m long, Ø 5–8 cm
1 round self-adhesive Velcro pad (Ø ~45 mm)
Outdoor-grade clear wood varnish
~2 m of natural rope

🛠️ Step-by-Step Guide: How to Build the Kids Sawhorse
1. Prepare the competition log
Find a ~1 m long straight branch with a diameter of 5–8 cm. Secure it on your sawhorse and cut off a ~5 cm section using your battery-powered pruner. Attach a Velcro pad to both cut faces. This makes the cut piece fall off when “sawed” with a toy chainsaw – perfect for pretend play!
2. Cut the frame supports
Secure the Ø 50 mm round wood and cut a 40 cm piece. Do the same for the Ø 30 mm sticks. Keep your cuts straight – 90° angles will make assembly easier later.
3. Cut the angled frame boards
Clamp a 210 cm board in your workbench, mark a 70 cm section, and draw a 25° inward angle using a square. Cut along this line. Then, mark and cut a matching 25° angle on the opposite end to form a parallelogram (a four-sided shape with opposite sides that are equal and slanted). Repeat this for the other boards.
4. Sand all edges
Use your multi-sander to round off and smooth all cut edges. Wear a dust mask for this part – especially if working indoors.
5. Assemble the frame
Pair two angled boards upright, offsetting the sloped ends. Mark 40.5 cm from the top and drill pilot holes through the boards and the Ø 50 mm round wood. Secure with a 4.5 x 70 mm wood screw. Repeat for the second frame side.
6. Add support dowels
Place the sawhorse upright. Measure 10 cm from the ground up each leg and mark the center. Drill pilot holes and attach the Ø 30 mm support rods using 3.5 x 70 mm screws on each end.
7. Lock the frames
Prevent the sawhorse from collapsing by securing one set of frame boards with an extra 4 x 30 mm screw just below the main screw.
8. Apply clear coat
Brush on outdoor wood varnish to protect your project from the elements. Let it dry fully as per the product instructions.
