After many months and multiple successful vacuum pulls, I decided to upgrade my vacuum forming station. My main goal was to decrease the footprint of the set up while using it, while still maintaining an easy tear down so the parts can be stored away. There are good set ups which have all components in a vertical stack. However, this means that you need a dedicated space to store and use the unit. I do not have such a space.
A few post build design notes. When building the platen, make sure to seal the inside section of the vacuum chamber before sandwiching them together. I suggest a 2-part epoxy, such as fiberglass resin. There are probably better ones, but it is cheap and can be sourced from any auto parts store. You might even want to glue the pieces together with the resin.
