In pretty much every Souls game, there’s a starting class like this. It usually has a name like Deprived, Wretch or even Waste of Skin. People playing the game for the first time will probably see this class, which is basically a naked guy holding a stick and a plank of wood with low stats across the board, versus all the other knights and sorcerers you can start as and naturally assume that choosing this class is the equivalent of doing a challenge run.
