While it may seem counterintuitive, the worst thing you can do after being abused by a narcissist or anyone else is to become aggressive and/or close yourself off from others. The unpleasant reality is that we have to feel the full breadth of our pain in order to overcome it, especially when it was our own weakness that got us into trouble in the first place. Without vulnerability to certain feelings, pleasant and unpleasant, we cannot personally grow to accommodate them.
