Many people are baptized Catholic as infants; others choose to come into the Faith as an adult. But what if you or your child is curious about becoming Catholic somewhere in between? We’ll take a look at what the OCIA process looks like for children who are past their youngest years, but not yet adults.

“How to Become Catholic: If You Are an Older Child” covers an adapted form of the Order of Christian Initiation of Adults, or OCIA (formerly RCIA) for children. Children and teenagers who choose to convert to Catholicism follow many of the steps that adults do when becoming Catholic, but certain adjustments are made for individual ages and levels of understanding. By learning the Catholic Faith alongside children of a similar age, children grow in their understanding in community and learn from their peers what it means to live a full Christian life in the Catholic Church. Through the process, they prepare to receive their Sacraments of Initiation: Baptism, Confirmation, and Holy Communion.
