Hey guys, this is an informal video to ask your opinion.
I had the idea to make a comic series on how to becoming a indie developer from start to finish and make a kickstarter to fund it. It would be a ligher weight medium covering useful topic that are normall done in long blog posts, essays or even books. I want this to be easy and ultra accessable.
This series would have:
Basics:
- basics on what is a (indie) dev and what roles/opportunities exist
- which game engines/tools to pick, what are the pros and cons
- where to get resources and how meet people that share you dream
- a wiki for most relevant terms in the industry
Game in production
- what to look out for
- visual effects
- game design
Advanced topics
- marketing, how and where to sell you game
- export your game to each platform and what you need to know
And maybe, but I would put it into a troll ultra high stretch goal, a manual in comic form for GameMaker which would be very very big indeed.
So here is where YOU come in, would that be a good thing? Any idea what to cover, (besides coding because that would make it very fast not fun), what stretch goals you would like it see. What languages to cover, etc. . Please note that this is not a "cool idea do it" thing, but that would mean you or others would potentially back this comic series on Kickstarter and spread the word to others to make this a reality. Be honest and share your thoughs.

![Hazardous Journey - [Super Demon Survivors OST]
Super Demon Survivors is a homage to time survival reverse bullet hells, set in a familiar world pitting multiple characters against hordes of demons and monsters in a multistage free for all.
Can you outlast wave after wave of increasingly difficult, minimalistic gameplay using an array different weapons and power ups?
Where you like the genre or you want to be part of the active community, you will have direct influence on how the game will be done via comments below or directly with me and my community on my discord server.
The game is made by me and Gutpunch studios to create a game that is in the spirit of the good old games but with modern standards.

![Animation control [Game Maker Studio 2 | Basics]
This basics video tutorial shows you how to control the animation of an object/instance in GameMaker Studio.
The idea is quite simple. You want the animation to be faster or slower or even end once the animation is done. For that you need to understand how the image index of the instance in question is being controlled by the image_speed. Thats it!
If you are unsure about controls in Gamemaker, I got you covered:

![The annoying teleporter [Game Maker Studio 2 | Enemy Ai]
This enemy ai video tutorial shows you how to make a randomly teleporting enemy that that doesnt spawn on walls in GameMaker Studio.
The idea is quite simple. You need to define at the start a radial spawn circle and save the first x,y coordinates where the instance has been placed. This area defines possible spawn locations. Now run down a timer and when that reaches zero we try to teleport the enemy in a random x,y coordinate in that possible range. Here we check multiple times if that spot is not blocked by a wall instance and if no, we set the x,y coordinate to the random new positon. Thats it!

![Loops - How they work [Game Maker | Basics]
This basics video tutorial shows you what loops are in GameMaker.
Loops are essential in every programming language where you repeat an instruction until a condition is met. There are 4 loops in GameMaker, which are repeat, for, while and do until. They all share one thing. A condition when the loop is over and the code/instruction part that is being looped/repeated/iterated on. You can exit out of a loop with the break; command. Also a word of caution. You can do infinite loops which will always crash your game, so please dont do that. Thats it!
Tldr:
loops = condition and code part

![Mana sparks effect [GameMaker Studio 2 | Vfx]
This vfx video tutorial shows you how to create a very subtle but great looking effect that you can overlay our game with for GameMaker Studio. Because it kind of reminds of me of magic or mana I call it the mana spark visual effect.
It is basically a particle system that pops out 1px particles in the camera viewable area that are being drawn in different colors and with low alpha values. And that is pretty much it. Looks great in sidescroller or top down games. The entire code is show in the comment section.

![How to use the Particle System [Game Maker | Basics]
This basics video tutorial shows you how to use the particle system asset class in GameMaker.
Once you create your particle system you surely want to use it in your game. The easiest way how is to simply place the particle system on an asset layer. The same method you can do with partile_system_create by creating it in code in an instance. Both methods create the particle system in the room on an seperate depth layer. To use the visual fx attached to an instance layer also on the particle system you have to create the paricle system fixed on that layer via partile_system_create_layer.
Thats it!
Tldr:
- drag n drop particle system on asset layer
- use instances to get more control
- use instance layer fx also on particle system

Creating ambience and small things that increase the visual feeling of any game. For that we use simple things like shadows, flickering lights and a vignette.
- draw shadows below characters/props
- draw a glow sprite to blend around character/glowing things
- draw a vignette to increase focus on the center
- draw a slow pulsating big orb/glow sprite in the center

![(Code) snippet - The code wizards way [Game Maker | Basics]
This basics video tutorial shows you how to use code snippets and why they are a useful tool for us developers in GameMaker.
So this is the scenario, you want to write down some code pieces and type every time the same stuff like if/else, switch statements or others. To make this process easies you can use code snippets which are basically code parts that can be quickly access/pasted by pressing F4. You can if you like also fully customize what code snipped you want to use by editing the internal snippet.txt in your GameMaker installation folder.
