You can back up your entire Android phone to a USB flash drive using a computer, OTG adapter, or third-party apps to securely save photos, contacts, messages, and files.
Method 1 — Using a Computer (Windows File Explorer)
Connect Devices: Plug your Android phone into your computer via USB, and ensure your USB flash drive is also connected
Set USB Mode: On your phone, choose File Transfer (MTP) when prompted in the USB options
Open File Explorer: Navigate to your Android device and select all folders you want to back up, including DCIM (photos), Downloads, Documents, and app data folders.
Copy and Paste: Right-click the selected files and choose Copy, then navigate to the USB drive and Paste them. The process may take time depending on file size
Safely Eject: Once completed, safely eject both the Android phone and USB drive to prevent data corruption
Method 2 — Using an OTG Adapter
If your phone supports USB On-The-Go (OTG):
Connect your USB flash drive to an OTG adapter, then plug it into your phone
Open a file manager app (such as My Files or Files by Google) and browse the internal storage
Select the files or folders to back up, tap Copy, navigate to your USB flash drive, and Paste the files
Confirm completion and safely unmount the flash drive from your phone
Method 3 — Using a Built-in Android Backup App or Third-Party Software
Built-in Backup:
Go to Settings Backup & Reset, turn on Back up my data, and choose a backup account if needed.
Use an OTG drive for local storage or follow prompts to select the USB drive as the target
Third-Party App (e.g., MobiKin Assistant for Android):
Install the app on a computer, connect both your Android phone and USB drive
Select the data types to back up (contacts, messages, apps, photos, etc.) and choose Export to USB. The software handles formatting and data organization, making restoration easier
