If your August lock still only works from the August app, you're one integration away from locking, unlocking, and tracking battery life straight from your Home Assistant dashboard. This walkthrough covers the full setup plus the two prerequisites that cause Home Assistant to never find the lock in the first place.
- Before you start, the August app must be installed, your account created, and the lock already added to that account
- The lock and your Home Assistant instance have to be on the same network or Home Assistant will not discover it
- In Home Assistant, go to Settings, then Devices & Services, and check the discovered section at the top before adding anything manually
- If it wasn't auto discovered, click Add Integration and search the brand name August
- August authenticates through auth.august.com, so you need an internet connection plus the same email and password you use in the app
- Expect a two step verification code by text, enter it, then approve the listed permissions
- Assign each lock to an area (front door, side door, foyer) during setup, you can move them later if you pick the wrong one
- Once added you get lock and unlock controls, an activity and history feed, and a battery level sensor, which matters because August locks drain batteries fast
