Prefer to have a zipper closure for the top of your Rick Rolltop Back? I gotchu! Go ahead and follow the written instructions of the pattern found here: lindshandmade.com/collections/pdf-patterns/products/rick-rolltop-backpack-pdf-sewing-pattern-includes-an-a0-projector-file-and-video up until page 23, stopping before you get to the “Finishing the Bag” section. Otherwise watch the how-to video found here: youtu.be/vNYwG8ZPRPI?si=lZ-cCyC56HkzIz9J stopping just before you add the interior to the exterior.
In addition to the materials listed in the pattern, you will need at least a 19” zipper and pull for the Standard size or a 16” zipper and pull for the Petite size. I’m a using a metal zipper end to finish off the one end of the zipper tape or you may make your own fabric zipper end not shown in this video.
I used the bonded nylon base in neon pink and black from Wonderground Fabrics for the exterior as well as their black and white striped 1” seatbelt webbing. The interior is waterproof canvas in the “bee-tle stripes” from Wizardry Stitchery & Crafts.
