The Trump administration plans to levy new tariffs on the key ingredient in solar panels, beginning later this year.

It’s a move expected to help U.S. solar makers — including QCells, which recently expanded production at its two giant factories in Georgia.

As Grist and WABE’s Emily Jones reports, the expansion and the new tariffs are both part of ongoing efforts to bring solar manufacturing back to the U.S.
