When I interviewed Jack Carr, author of The Terminal List, he shared his pitch for where the Bond franchise should go next. Instead of trying to outdo the Daniel Craig era with another modern take that invites nonstop comparisons, he thinks they should go back to the original source material and make Bond a true period piece. Set it in the early 1950s, make Bond a World War II veteran driving a 1930s Bentley blower, and strip away satellites, smartphones, and facial recognition—just return to pure old-school tradecraft. That way, the new run stands on its own instead of living in Craig’s shadow.
