We all expect a brand new knife to be razor sharp out of the box… but can you make it even sharper? In this video, we put four factory-fresh knives to the test:

Civivi Elementum (Nitro V steel)

MKM Mura (MagnaCut steel)

Hogue Ballista (154CM steel)

Work Sharp RMX (M390 steel)

Using the Edge-On-Up BESS tester, we measure sharpness right out of the box, then see how much improvement we get after just a few passes on a leather strop with compound.

You’ll learn:

Why some steels respond better to stropping than others

How stropping works to align and refine an edge

Why regular stropping keeps your knives sharper for longer

The surprising results of stropping brand new factory edges

Whether you’re into EDC, kitchen knives, or sharpening tools, stropping is one of the easiest ways to get more out of your blades.

What do you think — should every new knife be stropped before carrying? Drop your thoughts in the comments!
