For over 70 years, the School of Dentistry has helped provide mouthguards for the U-M athletic teams.
The program was first created by Donald Peterson, a School of Dentistry alum and U-M football player from 1948 to 1951, and William Godwin, who helped create the technology behind creating the athletic mouthguard.
Today, U-M faculty visit various U-M athletic teams and create impressions that are made into the athletic mouthguards that are used by the team players.
