how reddit literally hijacked the stock market
Hey guys welcome back to my channel! Today we're talking about something a little bit different from what we usually cover on here but since it's involving the internet I feel like it's still pretty ~on brand~ for the channel but we'll see lol. If you've been online this past week you definitely know what today's topic is just based on the title, and that's the current battle between Reddit's r/wallstreetbets subreddit and short sellers on wall street over Gamestop... this is the most random string of words I've ever put together in a sentence and meant literally but i guess there's a first for everything lol.

If you haven't seen what's been going on, a popular subreddit on.. Reddit (ofc) named wallstreetbets blew up this past week after their decision to buy up Gamestop (GME) shot it's stock price so high that Wall Street started to ask questions.. and couldn't believe the answer was on Reddit of all places and also answered why other stocks like Blackberry (BB) and AMC (AMC) were up as well. How it all started was after a few hedge funds announced they would be shorting Gamestop, a Reddit user (that i cant type in the description box but is mentioned in the video.. lol) realized that with so many people shorting Gamestop, there was room to troll and... troll is definitely what they and the rest of wallstreetbets did... if you're idea of trolling also includes making an insane amount of money. Naturally the general public caught wind of it after the news began covering the story and suddenly not only was wallstreetbets' subreddit blowing up with tens of thousands of new users by the minute, but Gamestop's stock price was hitting ridiculously insane milestones- all in the spirit of trying to hurt the hedge funds that were shorting the stock in the first place.
Since I initially filmed this video, a ton of stuff had happened so I tried to include as much as I could and v big apologies in advance for the difference in quality... hopefully the fish tank distracts you from that lol. But in general, the story has just been an insanely wild ride to watch unfold and while I had initially planned for something else to go up this week, I couldn't picture myself talking about anything else because this is literally all that's been on my mind this past week!
