This is the gripping story of Queen Victoria - a young widow left to rule an empire and raise nine children alone after the sudden death of her beloved husband, Prince Albert. Stricken with grief and furious that Albert had died so young, Victoria spiralled into despair. Her children should have been a source of comfort, but instead, they became embroiled in a bitter power struggle, and Victoria felt forced to establish an extraordinary system of spying and control. Under her watchful eye, her offspring were married off into the Russian, German, and Spanish royal families, creating dynastic ties that would later entangle Europe in war and tragedy. In this third and final episode, Victoria tries to marry off her rebellious daughter, Princess Louise - rumoured to have had affairs and possibly even an illegitimate child. The Queen also grapples with a frightening genetic illness spreading through her grandchildren and dreads the day Bertie, the son she mistrusts and resents, will inherit the throne. The drama peaks in December 1871, exactly ten years after Albert's death, as Bertie lies at death's door with typhoid. The nation holds its breath, will he die on the same day as his father? As the monarchy teeters on the edge and the Queen remains hidden from public view, many begin to question: is the crown itself in danger?
