Can we end years of depression with psychedelics? WashU researchers, clinicians, and social workers are finding out whether psychedelic-assisted therapy can offer lasting relief to people with treatment-resistant depression. Using WashU's advanced brain-imaging technology, the team can actually see how substances like psilocybin temporarily loosen rigid brain patterns linked to depression, creating a window for new thinking and emotional flexibility. WashU's Brown School is already preparing the next generation of therapists to guide patients through this care safely and equitably for when it receives FDA approval, with a focus on communities that need treatment the most. This work is happening through CHIRP, the Center for Holistic Interdisciplinary Research in Psychedelics.
