Food is the great motivator for all creatures, including humans. When our bellies are full our attention is diverted to other things, often unimportant things. But when we are hungry, just like a wild beast, humans are capable of going to extremes to obtain food. The goal here is NOT to let that happen. I'm in an area rich with wild foods. One of the most important wild foods in this region is the acorn. Acorns are a good source of nutrients. They have decent amounts of protein and fats too, and that makes them very satisfying. However, they aren't very tasty. In fact, they taste like dirt. Even after leaching them to remove the bitter tannins they are practically flavorless. But nearby I found some sweet mesquite pods and the combination of the two is perfect and really delicious.

This is the third installment of a new series exploring this topic of "New Beginnings".
