I have spent 16 years preparing for everything.
Fuel. Food. Ammunition. Tools. Emergency kits. Backup plans for the backup plans. I thought that was my job as a husband and a father. I thought being prepared was the same thing as being present.
I was wrong.
This video is about the moment I caught myself spiral into preparation mania before my 8 year old daughter's first motocross race. Extra tires. Extra fuel. Every tool known to man. And it hit me — none of that is going to matter to her. What's going to matter is whether her father was actually there.
She crashed 11 times. She finished the race. And what she said at the finish line stopped me cold.
There is a version of preparedness that serves your family. And there is a version that makes you a burden to them. I had crossed that line without even knowing it.
This one is for every man who is grinding so hard to protect his family that he has forgotten to enjoy them.
