▶️Introduction
Plate heat exchangers (PHE/PHX) are used in the industrial engineering world to transfer heat between two fluids. They achieve this by allowing the two fluids to flow side-by-side throughout the heat exchanger. They are one of the most common types of heat exchanger, the other common type being the shell and tube type.
The plate heat exchanger has two inlets and two outlets. One fluid flows into the exchanger hot and the other flows into the exchanger cold. Heat is exchanged between the two fluids.
Plates and gaskets are used to direct the fluid flow through the PHE/PHX. Each plate is thin in order to allow good thermal contact, but no direct contact.
The gaskets control flow through the PHE. Each gasket has an alternating pattern in order to direct flow to every second plate. The end plate does not allow flow between it and the movable cover. The start plate does not allow flow between it and the fixed cover.
