Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey is finally here — so it's time to put the epics on trial. In this episode of Bad Movie Fights vs Good Movie Fights, I'm breaking down the greatest (and worst) sword-and-sandal fight scenes ever put on film: Kirk Douglas in Ulysses (1954), Kubrick's Spartacus, Gladiator, Kingdom of Heaven, Troy's Paris vs Menelaus, the elephant madness of Oliver Stone's Alexander, Ralph Fiennes in The Return, King Arthur (2004), and yes — O Brother, Where Art Thou. Plus my honest review of Nolan's The Odyssey, and why the first film ever shot entirely on IMAX still can't get a fight scene right.
The three rules, as always: no shaky camera, no choppy editing to cover up actors who can't fight, and no gunfights allowed.
