As with any game predicated by numbers, the meta around Honkai: Star Rail revolves around taking numbers to their highest point for the player.

Spreadsheets, often called calcs is, shared with the public. Calcs are used as proof and, by their very nature, serve many useful functions: comparing builds, team setups, gameplay loops, and characters against each other.

However, as anybody who has ever created a basic calc will tell you, it is never perfect. The flaw of calcs comes from the fact that they are entirely built on assumptions made by the creator. It isn’t indicative of true gameplay. This doesn’t mean that all calcs are invalid; they’re still useful tools. However, they start to lose value with increasing complexity and are less effective at showing the bigger picture.

This is the Jiaoqiu Theorem, and this video covers examples of units that have proven time and time again that calcs aren’t everything.
