I tried to bake a simple plum sponge… and chaos took over 😂 From flour-before-eggs panic to my WWII hand mixer moment, Cake-Gate 2025 is pure comedy. My Cake recipe
Ingredients
200g plain flour
200g caster sugar
200g butter (softened)
4 eggs
2 tsp baking powder
Optional: vanilla extract or lemon zest
Fruit (like plums, apples, berries) to poke in the top
Method
Preheat oven to 180°C (160°C fan) / 350°F. Grease and line a 20cm tin.
Beat the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy.
Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well.
Fold in the flour + baking powder until just combined.
Spread the mixture into the tin, smooth the top.
Press halved plums (or whatever fruit you fancy) cut-side up into the batter.
Bake 35–40 mins until golden and a skewer comes out clean.
Cool slightly before slicing — gorgeous warm or cold.
