I share how my client was able to successfully quit porn for 165 days and counting. He had a serious porn addiction and was struggling for many years.
I got my clients permission to share this video. He also said, “I would also like to add that accountability is not enough. The accountability has to have weight. E.g you are letting more than yourself down with multiple people. And it takes time to build a relationship. Over time, the accountability has more weight and effectiveness.
This also worked for 3 other people in my group. We were stumbling for years, then things started working for everyone. It was also helpful to have people at different levels. One who has made more progress, one who is with you, and one is in a rut.
The strength of accountability grows over time. The loss of falling back grows in comparison to the relationships that you form. Relationships gain more weight over time. Eventually, the weight of those relationships/accountability outweighs the addiction.
Another thing, I also talk to my accountability partners regularly. Good times and in the bad.”
And he says he actually has 4 accountability partners now!! He says, “It took me that many to get success” and, “regular calls, regular texts, warning of risk days, etc.”
My client is a Christian and says the power of connection and community is talked about a lot in the New Testament. He says “addiction recovery is definitely not a self-help program”.
