The Pagtatag Documentary Film is officially coming to Netflix this July 23.
This is a huge win for 1Z Entertainment, as they have successfully maximized the film’s potential earnings. As we all know, Pagtatag became the highest grossing documentary in Philippine cinemas last year. And now, with the SAW Documentary Film nearing its release, it makes perfect sense to further earn from Pagtatag by licensing it to Netflix.
To give a bit of background, 1Z Entertainment still owns the full rights to the film. Netflix will simply acquire a license to stream it in the Philippines. The estimated licensing fee ranges from 8 to 20 million pesos, considering SB19’s high profile and the film’s strong performance in cinemas.
For now, the deal focuses on the Philippine market, but there is strong potential for expansion across Asia and even globally, depending on the audience's demand.
This news is expected to bring a surge in Netflix subscriptions next month. Even if Netflix only secured the local license, it is still a smart move.
