MLMS are so used to employing deceptive tactics that adding on a touch of quackery isn’t that big of a deal to them. A specific form of pseudoscience I see pushed by MLMs all the time is something called the Law of Attraction. The Law of Attraction was developed in the early 1800’s, and then eventually found its way into the mainstream by being featured in self-help books like Think and Grow Rich, The Power of Positive Thinking, and The Secret. Oprah Winfrey even discussed The Secret with writer Rhonda Bryne, and talked about how she has used “the secret” (aka, Law of Attraction) in her own life.
MLMs have picked up on the Law of Attraction, and in many cases are teaching their reps about this mystical concept. And why? Because actually believing in the law of attraction leaves you open to exploitation, and MLMs know this.
