Tyr Odinson is the eldest son of Odin, the general of Asgard’s armies, and the Norse God of War. He is also one of the most neglected Thor characters in Marvel. He constantly switches from unimportant side character to full on villain with little explanation. Whilst Thor, Balder, Sif, and even the Warriors Three have all received their own comics to tell their stories, Tyr has not. Nothing better exemplifies the neglect that Tyr has received than the fact that the single most important thing he ever did, binding Fenris, never once appears in the comics. This occurred in the Norse Myths and we are told that the event took place in the Marvel Universe, but never once has Marvel seen fit to show it. That is until the release of The Sword of Surtur, a novel by CL Werner set in the Marvel Universe with Tyr as the main character. Now we’ll finally see how this Norse Myth took place in the Marvel Universe on Thor Talk.
