The sun is a ticking time bomb for life on Earth, and in 500 million years, it will become so bright that it will trigger a runaway greenhouse effect. The oceans will evaporate, and the planet will heat up to the point of no return. Our ozone layer protects us from deadly UV radiation, and our magnetic field deflects most of the sun's occasional angry outbursts, but there are a variety of ways that the sun can extinguish all life on Earth. As the sun ages, it is slowly getting hotter and brighter, and in the end, it will become a red giant that will swallow Mercury and Venus whole. But don't despair, our advances in space exploration may provide us with the resources to escape the red giant and continue life in the outer solar system. #Sun #Earth #RedGiant #UVRadiation #MagneticFields #SpaceExploration
