How many people actually live in the UK?
The official population estimate is around 69.5 million, but Ofcom data shows there are 90.6 million active mobile subscriptions in the country.
Of course, mobile subscriptions aren't the same thing as individual people. Many people have multiple SIMs, work phones or other connections. But the huge difference between the two figures raises an interesting question: what can alternative datasets actually tell us about Britain's population?
In this video, I take a look at the numbers and ask whether we really have a clear picture of how many people are living in the UK.
