You HAVE to oneshot him. If you can't, the cutscene will play and you have to fight him. Also if you resurrect him after the fight, you have to fight him again....When you kill him, the door opens. The key only drops if you fight him.
1) Erupting shot
2) Deathly Arrow
3) Blazefang Arrows
