Did you know the normal amount of time it should take to fall asleep is 15 to 30 minutes? If you’re out in less than 5 minutes, it’s actually a sign you’re sleep-deprived.
But if you’re on the opposite end—tossing and turning for hours—the worst thing you can do is stay in bed.
When you lie there frustrated, your brain creates a conditioning response. You begin to mentally associate your bed with stress and wakefulness instead of rest.
The fix? If you can't sleep, get up and go to a "comfy spot" to do something relaxing in dim light. (Just skip the horror movies or late-night taxes!) Only head back to bed once your eyelids get heavy. If you wake right back up, repeat the process.
Break the cycle and retrain your brain for better rest.
