Bob Mumgaard, Co-founder and CEO of @CommonwealthFusionSystems says that unlike fission, fusion has no risk of meltdown, no connection to nuclear weapons, and no long-lived radioactive waste. Regulation is largely enforced at the state level, and fusion facility treated more like a cancer treatment center, with the focus on protecting workers in an industrial environment.
“That framework makes [fusion] much easier to innovate and build new facilities," he argues.
