What went wrong for Stephen Fulton in a fight where he was supposed to show the world his true brilliance by overcoming the challenge from a supposed hype-job?
There had been much talk -- mostly from Stephen Fulton -- about who has better skills, reflexes, technique, ring smarts, and mindset leading up to the fight.
Here at Boxing Mania, we believe that had the cool boy (who has since been dubbed as "schooled boy" by some unforgiving fans) taken some time to study WHO Naoya Inoue really is, instead of just dismissing him as a hype job, he might have learned things that could have made him at least a bit more competitive during the actual showdown.
Here's what we're trying to say:
Fulton's Mindset: 'I am bigger, stronger, smarter, faster, slicker, tougher and just so much better. I can't lose to a guy like him. He's just a hype job from Japan.'
Inoue's Mindset: Here's a guy who MAY have what it takes to beat me. Therefore, I will make all the necessary preparations and adjustments to ensure I emerge victorious. I will study his weaknesses and how to exploit them. I will practice all day long the moves that will enable me to negate every weapon he has in his arsenal.
The result, as we all witnessed, was a bewildered, overpowered, amateur-looking Fulton against the sharpest-looking version of Inoue we've seen so far.
Frankly, it was all over for Fulton in the second round.
