Hikma History | How India Helped Bangladesh Get Independence From Pakistan | History Documentary @HikmaHistory | Uploaded October 2024 | Updated October 2024, 7 hours ago.
4:15 I meant 'authority', not 'autonomy' - my apologies.
Bangladesh hit global headlines recently as a result of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina resigning in the face of massive protests against her administration. One of the protestors’ grievances was the quota-based system which reserved 30% of government jobs for descendants of the resistance movement which helped create the country in 1971. The struggle for its existence has come to mark it. Originally constituting the eastern wing of Pakistan, it found its voice stifled by the government centered in the west. In March 1971, the charismatic activist leader Mujibur Rahman declared Bangladesh’s independence. What happened next was chaos - as the Pakistani war machine moved across the country, unleashing death and destruction, almost indiscriminately. Pakistan’s arch nemesis, India got involved as the Bengal became the scene of a short but deadly conflict. In the end, the sacrifices made by the Bengali people were vindicated by their victory.
