As a writer and a screenwriter, I'm always striving to improve my screenplays and reach new heights. My screenwriting journey has had many ups and downs. Today I share some of the journey with you.
So, I decided to put my skills to the test and enter my work into various competitions and programs to get a better understanding of where I stand.
But as you know, writing is subjective, and everyone has opinions and preferences.
Despite this, receiving feedback and seeing how you're tracking is always valuable.
In this video, I'll share my experience of submitting my screenplay to a screenwriting consultant, a table read, two competitions, and a career accelerator, as well as the results. So, let’s see if I’m any good.

What this experience has taught me so far is:
It helps to find someone you trust, someone who understands story, and someone who wants you to win. I’m blessed that Naomi Beaty is that for me, and I have grown so much as a screenwriter as a result of her screenwriting expertise. Having a screenwriting expert, mentor or coach could give you the fresh perspective you need to help you identify parts of your story that are great as well as elements of your writing that could be improved.
Then, even if you get a thumbs up and a nod of approval, and win a screenwriting competition it doesn’t mean things are necessarily going to start happening. This is a tough one to make peace with, but Judd Apatow mentioned that it helps to start writing the next thing, instead of only ever talking about one screenplay.
