In 1991, I built my own custom synchronizer to connect a Synclavier — with no MIDI, SMPTE, or clock — to a modern MIDI studio. In this video, I walk you through my vintage setup using the Yamaha RX-11, MFB sequencer, CV tricks, and my professor’s ingenious Synclavier programming extension: Moxie.

You'll hear how I turned it into a generative FM instrument, how it was later sampled and emulated, and why this piece of music tech history still matters today.
