This is a simple time lapse of how I generally grind down the "hips" of my pieces. I start with an oversized ring for a foot, plot the hips, then grind away everything else, trying to preserve the exterior curve. The wood I'm using is cherry, so it burned a bit, but it's still a great wood to work with.
