It’s hard to feel motivated when you feel like crap. This is my foolproof way I motivate myself when both life and my health aren’t working in my favor.

Have you heard Mel Robbins talk about why “motivation is garbage” or that you just need to count to 5 (the 5-second rule)? YES, it works if you’re only struggling to end laziness. But I find most people aren’t just lazy. They’re straight-up STRUGGLING. Because hello….life?

For some people or at some times, it only takes 5 seconds to get motivated to take action. But if you’re living with chronic illness, a disability, health issues, or you’re just freaking tired, there are some other things you probably need to address - both practical and in your mindset.

The secret to self-motivation comes down to meeting your needs in multiple ways. You can’t learn how to motivate yourself to work if you’re ignoring what’s causing the problem to begin with, and it’s often more than a bad habit.
