Some readers think that the author failed when the mystery is solved before the big reveal. Personally, I like solving the fictional crime. Unless it is super obvious to the point that the reveal is just a given, I think the author did a good job leaving breadcrumbs. If the big whodunnit moment is too much of a surprise, I'm annoyed because those puzzle pieces were missing from the narrative. The pieces need to be there, even if I don't put them all together in time.
