The first phase (before any editing begins) is discussing with the band and camera operator what shots and environments would be best suited for the song and the video's post production. After the footage is received, phase 2 continues with editing the cuts and transitions in Premiere Pro. While editing I focus solely on the movement and flow of the cuts and how well they follow the dynamics of the music. I also do some rotoscoping and a wave-like effect in After Effects during some special moments in the song. I don't think about the coloring until phase 3, which is when I record multiple takes of analog video effects. Uniquely for this music video, I used the black-luma-key feature on the Roland V-4EX to allow some feedback loop line shapes to sit on top of the footage. I typically record several takes, or 'passes' of effects, to have a variety to choose from in the next phase. Phase 4 is essentially editing the music video again, only this time with the analog video recordings, and choosing the best one for the given cut. This last phase is not nearly as time consuming as phase 2 but it is still longer than recording the analog effects themselves.
