In this HVAC training video, I will describe how I diagnose a bad TXV. A thermostatic expansion valve meters the flow of refrigerant into the evaporator coil.

If the thermal expansion valve is bad the evaporator coil freezing might happen, which would reduce airflow to the point where no more air would blow into the house. It can be frustrating not knowing what's going on with your TEV or thermal expansion valve as some people call it. If you don't know the symptoms of a bad TXV, you might end up just making things worse for the homeowner. If you need TXV troubleshooting tips, don't be shy. I can get you through this! Figuring out your subcool and superheat will help you diagnose a bad TXV. The metering device on an evaporator coil could be a fixed orifice or a TXV. So, good luck with this video and the TXV explained.
