This is the story behind how Hendrick Motorsports, through the leadership of Hall of Fame Crew Chief Ray Evernham, pioneered training college athletes to be the over-the-wall pit crew to speed up pit stops.
Hendrick Motorsports held the grand opening of its new Atrium Health Motorsports Athletic Center, a state-of-the-art facility with weight rooms, locker rooms, recovery facilities and medical professionals. The center rivals any college locker room training facility these athletes are recruited from.
The primary point of the new facility is to help its athletes stay healthy, perform better and have longer careers. A secondary benefit of the facility is to make Hendrick Motorsports the most attractive NASCAR team for the top Athletes coming from the best colleges and universities.
This Athletic Center is the latest in a long history of Hendrick Motorsports being on the cutting edge of anything that enhances performance, not only in race cars, but in the people that work for the team.
And it all started with an idea and observation by Ray Evernham as he joined Hendrick Motorsports with Jeff Gordon in 1993.
