How heat recovery works:
- During the operation of the CO2 cooling pack, the heat absorption process in the evaporator means there will be heat rejection from the gas cooler to the atmosphere
- To reclaim waste heat the discharge gas is directed through a CO2/water heat exchanger
- The water stored in the buffer tanks is heated up to the design charge temperature
- Once the water has achieved the required flow temperature, it can be used to deliver heat to the following utilities: ventilation, heat, and hot water system
- The heat is used in the connected utilities and the return water temperature to the heat recovery unit is low
- If there is additional heat available from the refrigeration system above the demand of the utilities, this will be stored in the buffer vessels
- If the consumption is higher on the utilities compared to the deliverable heat energy from the CO2 plant, the shortfall of heat will be added from the buffer vessel
