Hidden away in a wooded valley on the outskirts of Gateshead, Derwentcote is the earliest steelmaking furnace in Britain. English Heritage Senior Properties Curator Mark Douglas explains the cementation process and discusses the history of steelmaking in the Derwent Valley.
